For Immediate Release

Contact: Mike Charbonneau, 919-485-7413

Research Triangle Park, NC (Sept. 8 2017) – As Hurricane Irma makes landfall in the United States over the weekend, GoTriangle and GoDurham managers will be closely watching the storm and implementing plans that will keep customers fully informed if weather conditions warrant any service changes.

“While the current forecast shows the track has shifted west, we will continue to monitor conditions throughout the event and are committed to announcing decisions to detour or suspend routes promptly,” said Brian Fahey, GoTriangle transit administrator for the GoDurham services. “If changes are required, they will be communicated on an hourly basis throughout the event, or more frequently if necessary. The highest priority is the safety of our customers, operators and staff.”

If the Triangle were to experience sustained 45 mph winds, bus operations could be suspended for safety reasons. Customers should watch the forecast, check rider alerts online at gotriangle.org and godurhamtransit.org, monitor the agencies’ Twitter and Facebook accounts and plan to arrive at stops early. Follow GoTriangle on Twitter at @GoTriangle and GoDurham at @GoDurhamTransit. Please note that the TransLoc app offers real-time updates on when buses should arrive. Riders also can sign up for email alerts at gotriangle.org

GoTriangle and GoDurham will be on stand-by to assist the community as needed.
