Ongoing Station Updates

GoDurham Station Renovation Update - July 8th, 2025

Despite recent weather challenges, significant progress is being made on the Durham Station renovation. Phase I demolition is currently underway, with work progressing on key elements that will define the future appearance of the station!

Accomplished Activity:

The former Kiss and Ride area has been completely cleared to make way for new landscaping and the construction of a pedestrian bridge that will link the main bus campus to the large bus island.

You may notice activity along Pettigrew Street, where notable progress includes the start of electrical work in preparation for new lighting installations. Preparations are also underway for the temporary bus turn at the west end of Bay 1A, where the area has been excavated and will soon be brought up to subgrade.  To avoid erosion, measures are being taken to ensure soil stabilization at the east end of the bay terminal, where ongoing inlets can be seen, where there is a temporary pond.

Detour signs are being finalized to provide clear guidance and avoid any confusion for the public.

Upcoming Activity:

  • Fire hydrants along Pettigrew Street will be relocated to allow for the installation of temporary curbs and gutters.
  • Conduit installation will begin along the curb near Bay 1B as part of the next construction phase.

    To support safety during construction:

  • Two large lights have been installed at the bus terminal platform to improve night visibility during the construction phase.
  •  The Durham Police Department is patrolling the station during off-hours to ensure security.

We appreciate your continued patience and support as we work to enhance Durham Station and deliver a safer, more efficient, and more welcoming transit experience for all!
