History

The City of Durham entered into the transit business in 1991, when it assumed responsibility for the transit system previously operated by Duke Power Company. The Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA) fixed route service was provided through a transit management contract with a third-party management company. In March 2015, as part of a regional re-branding effort, DATA became GoDurham.

On July 1, 2023, the City of Durham contracted with RATP Dev USA for the management, operations, and maintenance of the GoDurham service. GoDurham currently operates 19 bus routes, and service is provided seven days a week generally from 5:30 a.m. until 12:30 a.m., Monday through Saturday, and 6:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Sundays and holidays.

GoDurham ACCESS is the coordinated demand-response transit service for the City of Durham and Durham County. GoDurham ACCESS provides curb-to-curb (or door-to-door upon request) ADA paratransit service for eligible riders to all locations within the City of Durham and to any location outside the City that is three-quarters of a mile of any GoDurham route. GoDurham ACCESS also provides service to Durham County residents who are disabled, 60 years of age or older, transportation disadvantaged or live in rural areas of the county.

The City of Durham Transportation Department (Mobility Services Division) provides oversight and planning of the GoDurham and GoDurham ACCESS services.
