GoDurham and GoTriangle are on standby to help with emergency transportation and evacuations in the wake of an explosion and fire near Brightleaf Square in downtown Durham.

GoDurham Route 5K has been suspended, and other routes could experience delays. Road closures have affected GoDurham Routes 1 and 11 and the Bull City Connector as well.

Some GoDurham buses and operators have been enlisted to help Durham Emergency Management Services during the crisis. Specifically, GoDurham has been called in to evacuate Durham school students.

“I authorized pulling two 5K buses out of regular service to stage at Durham School of the Arts,” said Doug Middleton, GoDurham’s general manager.  “The buses are standing by at that location now and will be used to assist in this capacity until further notice. I have advised dispatch to contact operators to be on stand-by and to fill the open 5K runs as soon as possible.
