DURHAM (Oct. 16, 2020) -- Early voting started Thursday at 14 locations in Durham County, and GoDurham has a fare-free, no-excuse ride ready to get voters within walking distance to any of them.
For a list of early voting locations, please see WayToGoDurham.com/govote then map your transit route to get there using the trip planner at godurhamtransit.org. Early voting lasts until Oct. 31, and daily hours vary by location.
The Durham City Council voted in 2019 to make GoDurham free every Election Day, but because of COVID-19 riding GoDurham currently is free every day. Polls on Election Day on Nov. 3 will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. For more voting information, please find the Durham County Board of Elections website here.
“You can register and early vote on the same day,” says Durham Mayor Steve Schewel. “There is so much at stake this year. Make your voice heard."
Those choosing to vote early at the Criminal Justice Resource Center on Main Street will have an easy ride from Durham Station. Routes 12, 12B and 2 all stop at the center so, no matter what time you arrive at Durham Station, a bus heading to the justice center will be leaving soon and, if one bus is crowded, the next one won't be far behind.
Please find a list of all 14 locations and the routes that serve them at waytogodurham.com/govote/.
GoDurham is still following all public health guidelines regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, so riders need to remember to wear masks and to board the buses from the rear door.
More information about GoDurham’s pandemic precautions can be found here.
