GoDurham is excited to begin offering Microtransit in the Fall of 2024 as an addition to public transportation in our community.
What is Microtransit?
Microtransit is a developing transit program designed to fill the service gap between regular fixed-route bus services and e-hailing services like Lyft or Uber. Microtransit uses technology to offer rides when you need them within the identified Zones. The great thing about this program is that the routes and times are flexible and change based on what riders need to make travel easier and more convenient. Riders will be able to use a mobile app or website or call to request a ride and then meet the vehicle where requested.
GoDurham’s Microtransit Program
GoDurham is thrilled to provide a Microtransit Program, offered by GoDurham ACCESS. This innovative, on-demand transportation service is designed to provide more flexible, convenient transit options for Durham residents, especially in underserved areas. Microtransit is a technology-driven public transportation solution that offers on-demand rides within specific service zones. It uses advanced routing algorithms and real-time tracking to ensure efficient and safe travel. Unlike traditional fixed-route buses, microtransit uses smaller vehicles, such as shuttles or vans, allowing routes and schedules to be more adaptable to riders' needs. The Microtransit Program provides door-to-door, same-day ride services within two designated service zones: East Durham and North Durham.
- In the East Durham Zone, passengers can access critical locations such as The Wellons Village transit hub, locations along US 70, and multiple parks and schools, including Southern High School.
The North Durham Zone covers areas such as West Point on the Eno, North Roxboro and Hebron Roads, local parks, and Riverside and Northern High Schools.
The service will operate daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
