Transit Equity Week

TRANSIT EQUITY WEEK

GoDurham celebrates Transit Equity Week, the annual celebration of civil rights advancing to a more just and equitable transportation system for all Americans. Our commitment is to ensure that Transportation is a right and that the best interest of the Durham community is a priority to strengthen the foundation, enhance the value, and improve the quality and sustainability of neighborhoods that are necessary for a strong and diverse community.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION CENTERS AROUND THE DURHAM COMMUNITY

The Durham community has been vocal, and GoDurham continues to discuss strategies regarding how we will best address areas of improvement.

• GoDurham is actively improving stops to meet the standards for accessibility, shelter, seating, security, and lighting.

• Light reflectors are being placed at all 946 bus stops.

• To date, 122 stops have been improved with up to 75 stops scheduled to be improved each year.

• On January 27th we restored all pre-pandemic service back to 100%.

• April 27, 2024 – we will increase service to every 30 minutes after 7pm Mon- Sat and on Sundays Routes 6, 7, 8, 9A/9B and 12/12B. All GoDurham routes will have a departure from Durham Station every 30 minutes until midnight on Mon-Sat and 9pm on Sundays/Holidays

. • August 24, 2024 – Service will be adjusted in North Durham on Routes 1,4 and 9 and create a new Route 4 that connects Duke Regional Hospital to Duke/VA Hospitals. Route 4 will be extended to N. Roxboro Rd and Tom Wilkenson Road and will serve North Roxboro Rd every 30 minutes. Route 9A/9B will continue to serve Dearborn Dr. (Braggtown community) every 30 minutes at all times.

• A total of 8 Electric Buses are in our fleet with an order placed for 18 more to be received within the next 2 years.

These are just a few service enhancements implemented to reflect feedback from the riders, service providers, and municipalities. Changes are being made endlessly as GoDurham continues to provide fairness in mobility and accessibility to meet the needs of the Durham community.
